Dishwashing Detergents

Automatic dishwasher detergents are available both in power as well as gel form - these types of detergents are highly recommended for your dishwashers.

Hard water is not very good for effective cleaning because of the salts and minerals that it contains. Filming is created because of the magnesium and calcium content in the water and this may cause damage to your bone china and dishes, not giving you a thorough and satisfactory wash.

In areas where there is hard water, automatic dishwashers will need special detergents that will work to give your dishes a thorough wash. The detergent must not foam much as this hampers the cleaning process, the detergent must not produce too much lather. Choose a detergent with the right composition and an effective one to get best results.

You must also make sure that you use the right quantity of detergent. The detergent packets and the user manuals will always have specifications regarding the amount of detergent that has to be used. If the quantity of detergent is not sufficient then you may not end up getting clean dishes.

A good dishwasher detergent must reduce the resistance of the salts like calcium and minerals present in the water, it must have the quality of making the water soft and prevent the water from leaving any spots on the dishes. It must be able to clean oils and grease thoroughly from the dishes by neutralizing them. A good detergent must not be harsh on the dishes and protect the designs and patterns on them.

Dishwashing detergents contain ingredients like Nonionic Surfactants in order to prevent too much foaming - this ingredient also has the quality to reduce tension to avoid spotting on the dishes. Surfactants have the quality of removing grease and oil from the dishes. If the alkaline levels are not controlled in the water by the detergent used then there would be spots left after the dishes are washed. A good detergent must balance these alkaline levels.

The detergent must have corrosion inhibitors in order to prevent corrosion of the dishes being washed and protect the metal parts of your dishes from oxidizing. Protein salts become soluble in the presence of chlorine compounds, chlorine also helps in the removal of stains and prevents spotting on china and glassware.

Certain brands of detergents may have particular alkalis or other additives to help maintain the glaze of your dishes and to make the removal of excess oils and grease effective. These dishwashing detergents are scented in order to remove food odors and smells.

If you do not use the right detergent that is meant for your dishwasher you may not get satisfactory results. Some detergents may lather too much which may cause an overflow in the dishwasher and damage the machine and its surroundings.
